Berry Merry

Purple Lights- (Image not my own)
Today I was treated to a wonderful manicure, when asked what colour i desired to have coated over my bare nails (bleurgh! Bare nails!) instead of saying my usual neutral tones or even red; any shade of which at this time of year is highly predictable, i opted for a cool shade of darkness. Purple. A rich, warming purple, closely imitating black or the deepest shade of blue at times, using light as trickery and performing like an illusionist to the human eye. Now you understand the basis of the colour you can grasp how beautiful the polish is, with slight movements of the hand reveal subtle flecks of raspberry pink, not to be mistaken for cheap glittery nail polish!
The choice of a purple nail colour doesn't seem natural for this time of year or to put it more specifically doesn't seem natural for this month. December feels more appropriate for greens, reds, golds, silvers maybe even a royal blue, and somewhat dismissive of any other colour palette. Purple appears more suited for the month of November perhaps?...A month when the colour best reflects the celebrations and the skies during Guy Fawkes Night, mirroring the explosions of colour and the shimmering ash as it falls back to earth.
But purple hues can be the epitome of Christmas decadence and style. The colour has become increasingly more popular this season (and seasons past). this could be dependant on the truth that it is the same colour as mulled wine, an early nights sky or possibly and i hope more for this reason: that its the richness in the colour that embodies the richness of our lives, loves and spirits at this time, this is how i choose to look upon it. My nails now resemble this with the berry glint that is dashed through capturing the lights and the magic that this time of year holds, whether a small child and adult or the oldest person you cannot deny that you don't get excited thinking about jolly old Christmas!
BERRY MERRY XMAS.
Apologies for the poor quality, but here was the end result.
